As you can see in my CV/Resume below, a yachting resume is much different than any resume you've made before. You must include a current photo of yourself and include the following information: Nationality, your current location, phone number, date of birth, email address, languages spoken, marital status, and if you have a valid drivers license. You may also want to include your health status, if you have no tattoos and are a non smoker. These are things captains are very interested in. Girls, your photo should be from the waist up. Guys, be clean shaven with white collared shirts and look happy! Your CV should include RELEVANT jobs and skills that you have had in the past. For example, a job in hospitality shows that you will be able to communicate and interact well with guests. If you have experience cleaning, building or anything hands on, it will show that you will be able to use those similar skill sets on deck. Everyone's CV/Resume is different. I have helped several friends create their resume and have had my own reviewed by countless people in the industry. THE THING ABOUT RESUMES IS...Everyone will tell you something different. You can walk into an agency and have an agent tell you a list of things to change, and the next day you will see a different agent in the same office that will ask you why you removed that information. The point is, everyone thinks they know exactly how a resume should be and they don't. Trust yourself. Once you have gotten a few people to review it and you are comfortable with the information, keep the format and simply add work experience to it every time you do day work on a boat. Ask yourself what a captain would want to see. Keep it simple, easy to read, and well organized. Use spell check and have a friend proofread. Be sure to include any and all certifications, accomplishments, education and qualifications. The general rule is to keep your CV at two pages long. Your should have at least three references and their current information at the bottom of your CV. MAKE YOURSELF LOOK AND SOUND GOOD. Here is a glimpse of my front page. You may use my format if you'd like.
