I hadn't yet reached the border of Indiana and Illinois when I was picked up by my friend Candice and driven to Chicago. It was my first time to Chicago, and first time to the state of Illinois! Chicago was five days of eating and drinking very, very well. I stayed with one of my best friends, Dougie Fresh Weisband and an old high school buddy, Rob Koehler. I averaged 22 miles per day the week prior to arrival, so I could make a Cubs game at Wrigley Field, and it was definitely worth it! I was a tourist during the day, and a local drunkard at night. I pulled it together and made it to the Lincoln Park Zoo Saturday morning for a Groupon employee charity event. We registered about 30 people! I convinced a woman entirely in Spanish to join the registry, which I felt good about. Our table was run by Lauren, my Illinois State rep and a young girl named Teagan, who had a successful bone marrow transplant to cure her Leukemia. There's no better way to see the meaningful impact BeTheMatch can have on someone than to meet someone who found their match in an unrelated donor. Other activities included a U2 concert, visiting the bean, the beach, the fountain, and Dougie Fresh's rooftop had a hot tub and an jaw-dropping view of the Chicago skyline. Really fell in love with this city, I'd love to live here some day! - Just not during winter.
