Crossing the Mississippi into Iowa

After eleven straight days of walking, I had reached the famed Mississippi River. Google maps had led me astray and had me cross a bridge that was closed to pedestrians.  I got stopped by the police on the bridge, and for the third day in a row, I had to take a detour.  I walked along the bike path to the Centennial Bridge, where I was stopped by a guy who has a niche for picking out long distance travelers that pass through the area.  He has hosted about 30 bikers, walkers and even a few people that kayak the Mississippi. He ended up riding along side me for the next hour or two and we met for a beer last night.  I posted a photo to instagram from the bridge and immediately received a text message from  a friend, that she knew someone in the area that would love to house me...It was Dougie Fresh's college roommate, Andrew.  Luckily, he has a truck and picked me and the cart up in a town about ten miles past Davenport.  As a best friend of one of my best friends, we are instantly bff's. Today we went to the movie set of the Field of Dreams and also explored an awesome cave system. I am happy to be in Iowa, and looking forward to more of the unknown to come. Everyday is an adventure walking across America!
