Hey yachties and future yachties! Haven't written for a while, so I thought i'd give you an update! I would have liked nothing more than to join a boat going to the Med this summer, however I have five weddings to attend and a documentary to film! After a month in the yard on my old boat, and a month between Pittsburgh and California, I went back to Lauderdale last week to look for a temp deckhand job and... LAUDERDALE IS BOOMING! Tons of boats are prepping for their summer trips and looking for day workers to lend a hand. I met plenty of people that were having a hard time finding work, but only because they are focusing their energy more to Ft. Liquordale rather than using their time to find work. It's not hard people! As soon as I arrived to Lauderdale, I reactivated my status on all of the agency's websites, which got me a couple phone calls in the days after, but what really worked was DAYWORK123.com! I had three phone interviews in the first three days, and got the offer I was looking for! I joined a 112' Westport for a three week trip! This will give me some cash for an upcoming travel adventure, as I will have about 5 weeks off when I get back to civilization...I'm thinking South America now, but will update when I make a decision. The boat flew me from Lauderdale to North Eleuthera and I took the ferry over to Harbour Island where I am now. The owner and his kids do a lot of fishing and diving, and as the mate, I get to join in on the activities! Days are long and I definitely do my fair share of hard work, but daily trips to the beach and fishing trips are worth the sore back. Two weeks left, headed to Nassau to hit up the Atlantis, then Highbourne Cay, and one of my favorite places, PIG BEACH at Big Majors/Staniel Cay. Totally diggin' the freelance gigs...allows me to work for one month and take the next month off! Most captains don't like seeing that on resumes...but its worth the risk and works for me! Tons of photos to come, check in next week! Peace brus!
